Extended Family's infamously huge live show has secured industry attention, with one Australian "Cigar" legend recently describing Extended Family as "a cross between Sly and The Family Stone and Frank Zappa".
2007 ended with a bang: Extended Family brought their own special brand of roots/soul/funk theatrics to 4 massive shows at Woodford Folk Festival, thrilling rain-soaked punters who danced New Years Eve countdown with the band on the Blues/Roots stage - a show which included a boxing match between 2007 & 2008 (whereupon 2007 was knocked out and down for the count!), a dancing leprechaun and a sword-swallower.
2008 looks to be even bigger, with a new album in the works, a Live album as well, more touring and further development of their huge live show with extra brass and percussion sections. A band more suited to the big stage, Extended Family's festival show is fast becoming the stuff of legend, with no two ever the same. After seeing Extended Family at the Great Southern Blues & Rockabilly Festival in Narooma, Oct 2007, Sydney ABC 702 radio presenter Richard Glover had this to say onair about the band:
"Australia has a great tradition of exuberant, crowd-thrilling bands --from Daddy Cool and Skyhooks, to Cat Empire and Machine Gun Fellatio. Extended Family is the next in line. It's more than a band, it's a cult - and I want to join.”
